Extrude, revolve and Press Pull
Extrude pushes a flat sketch up into a solid, Revolve spins it around an axis, and Press Pull moves the faces of a solid you already have. All three work the same way: pick, set a size, tap Done.
Extrude a sketch
Extrude lifts a closed shape from a sketch, like a rectangle or a circle, straight up into a solid.
- Draw a closed shape with Sketch. You can leave the sketch open.
- Tap Extrude in the tool strip, or press E.
- Tap the profiles you want to extrude. Tap a picked one again to drop it.
- Type a Distance, or drag the orange arrow.
- Tap Done, or press ↩Return.

- Picked profilePicked profiles turn blue. The circle isn't picked, so it stays a hole.
- Distance arrowDrag it to set the distance. The label shows the value as you drag.
- DistanceType a number or an expression. It always matches the arrow.
- DoneKeeps the step. Cancel, or Esc, throws it away.
A profile is a closed area of the sketch. A circle inside a rectangle makes two: the plate around the circle, and the circle itself. When the sketch has only one profile, it’s picked for you. Until a profile is picked, the inspector shows Select at least one profile.
Dragging the arrow changes the distance in 0.1 mm steps. Drag it back through the sketch to extrude the other way.
Choose what the extrude does
The rest of the inspector decides what the solid does to other bodies and which way it grows. Change any setting before you tap Done, and the preview follows.
Operation sets what happens where the solid meets a body:
| Operation | What it does |
|---|---|
| New | Makes a separate body. This is the default for a sketch on a plane. |
| Join | Adds the solid to the bodies it touches. This is the default for a sketch on a face. If it touches nothing, you get a new body. |
| Cut | Removes the solid from the bodies it touches. |
| Intersect | Keeps only the part where the solid and the bodies overlap. |
Direction, Taper and Flip direction shape the solid itself:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| One side | Extrudes the distance in one direction. |
| Symmetric | Splits the distance in half, one half to each side of the sketch. |
| Two sides | Extrudes Distance one way and Back the other way. |
| Taper | Tilts the walls by this angle, in degrees, so the solid narrows or widens as it rises. |
| Flip direction | Sends the extrude to the other side of the sketch. |
Cut a pocket
A pocket is a sketch on a face, extruded into the part with Cut. Use the same steps for a slot, a recess or a cut-out that goes all the way through.
- Tap Sketch, then tap the face you want to cut into.
- Draw the pocket’s outline, then tap Finish sketch.
- Tap Extrude. Because the sketch is on a face, Operation starts at Join.
- Tap Cut.
- Type the depth as a negative number, such as
-6, so the cut goes down into the part. Tap Done.

To cut all the way through, use a depth at least as deep as the part. If nothing is cut, or the inspector shows The cut doesn’t touch any body, the cut points away from the part: tap Flip direction.
Drill holes for screwsFor screw holes, the Hole tool sizes clearance, counterbores and inserts for you.Revolve a profile
Revolve spins a profile around an axis. Use it for anything round: knobs, wheels, spacers and bottle caps.
- Touch and hold Sketch and choose On XZ (front), so the sketch stands up.
- Draw half the outline, on one side of where the axis will be.
- Turn on Draw construction lines in the inspector and draw a line along the axis.
- Tap Revolve. The construction line becomes the Axis.
- Set the Angle: 360 for a full turn, less for part of one. Then tap Done.

To use another axis, tap the Axis menu. Sketch X and Sketch Y are the sketch’s own axes, and aren’t highlighted. Line 1, Line 2 and so on are the lines in the sketch, in the order you drew them. Without a construction line, the axis starts at Sketch Y.
Profiles work as they do for Extrude. Operation always starts at New, even for a sketch on a face, so tap Join or Cut when the revolve should add to a body or cut into it. Revolve has no arrow: type the angle.
Push and pull faces
Press Pull moves the faces of a solid. Pull the top of a plate up 3 mm and the plate is 3 mm thicker. The faces around it stretch to follow, and it stays one body.
- Tap the faces you want to move. They must be on the same body.
- Tap Press Pull, or press Q.
- Type a Distance, or drag the arrow.
- Tap Done.

If you tap Press Pull with nothing picked, it opens anyway and waits: tap the faces to move, and tap one again to drop it. The distance starts at 2 mm.
Press Pull also moves round faces. Push a hole’s wall with a positive distance to make the hole narrower, or a negative one to widen it. The arrow appears on flat faces only, so type the distance for a round one.
Press Pull picks the tool for you
Press Pull looks at what you’ve picked and starts the tool that fits:
- Edges picked: it starts a Fillet on them.
- A sketch no step uses yet, and no faces picked: it starts an Extrude of that sketch. It does the same while a sketch is open.
- Faces picked: it moves them.
- Nothing picked: it waits for you to tap faces.
Use parameters and expressions
Every Distance, Back, Taper and Angle field takes an expression as well as a number. Type thickness, width / 2 or 3 + 0.2, and the field shows the result under it. Change the parameter later and the solid follows.
Flip direction keeps an expression: depth becomes -(depth). Dragging the arrow replaces the expression with a plain number.
To change an extrude, revolve or Press Pull later, tap its step in the timeline. It opens in the inspector with the same settings.
When a tool won’t start
A tool that can’t run right now looks dimmed. Tap it to see why. If a step goes wrong, the inspector shows the problem in red above the settings.
- Needs a sketch. Draw a closed shape with Sketch first.
- There is no sketch yet. Extrude and Revolve need one to start from.
- Needs a closed shape in the sketch, like a rectangle or circle.
- The sketch has lines, but they don’t enclose an area. Close the gap, or draw a rectangle or circle.
- Needs a body or a closed shape in a sketch. Draw one with Sketch first.
- Press Pull has nothing to work on yet. Draw a closed shape, then extrude it.
- Finish Extrude 1 first: Done or Cancel.
- Another step is open. Tap Done or Cancel in the inspector first.
- Select at least one profile
- Tap a profile in the sketch. With two or more, nothing is picked for you.
- The cut doesn't touch any body
- The cut points away from the part, or the sketch is somewhere else. Tap Flip direction, or check the sketch’s position.
- A selected profile no longer exists — reselect it
- You changed the sketch and the picked area is gone. Tap Clear, then tap the profiles again.
